Gilbert Jeremy Gottfried, the son of Lillian Zimmerman, a housewife, and Max Gottfried, a proprietor of a hardware shop, was born on February 28, 1955, in the Coney Island neighbourhood of the Brooklyn borough of New York City. When Gilbert cracked one of the original 9/11 jokes, the audience gasped, but he quickly won them over and gained media attention. Gilbert cracked comments about Paul Reubens’ arrest for mast**bating in an adult movie theatre, which led to producers blacklisting him, during the 1991 Emmy Awards. After making jokes about the 2011 Tohoku Japanese earthquake crisis, the fourth most devastating earthquake to strike Japan, he also missed the chance to voice the Aflac duck.
