We didn’t have on our movie bingo cards that Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson in The Banshees of Inisherin would become the modern-day version of Laurel and Hardy. Martin McDonagh, who writes and directs both movies, is the reason why the Irish actors in “In Bruges” (2008) and “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which is coming out soon, have chemistry and interact in a way that is most like the masters of the early 1900s.
The Banshees of Inisherin is a McDonagh piece, so it is both a frustrating and embarrassing comedy. The movie starts with a beautiful aerial shot of the green Irish island with the same name, set against a bright blue sky, and the work of The Banshees of Inisherin cast can’t be ignored. In this picture, it only rains at night, which, based on how the weather is in Ireland, put the movie in a different genre, since Carter Burwell’s music makes people think of perfect times.
